You Could Lose Your License for Passing a School Bus Illegally in Canada

Drivers in Prince Edward Island, Canada will face sharp penalties for passing a school bus illegally. Starting Saturday, December 8, a driver could face a deduction of 12 points from their driving record, a three month suspension of their drivers license and a $5,000 fine.

This is in response to several incidents in the area where children were either hit or almost hit when getting on or off the school bus according to cbsaustin.com.

And to get their license back, there are even more steps to go through. They have to meet with highway safety officials, pay a $100 reinstatement fee and take a defensive driving course.

In other words, this law makes you literally pay for your dangerous mistake.

There have been several incidents in the U.S. this school year of children hit or nearly hit by a driver who wasn't obeying the law around a stopped school bus. There has been some deaths, too.
