Warrant’s Jani Lane Died from Alcohol Poisoning
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office announced Wednesday that ex-Warrant singer Jani Lane died as a result of “acute ethanol intoxication,” otherwise known as alcohol poisoning.
On Aug. 12, the day after Lane was found dead at a hotel in Woodland Hills, Calif., TMZ reported that a half-empty vodka bottle as well as prescription drugs were discovered in his room. Vicky Oswald-Ley, Lane’s older sister, has said that her 47-year-old brother battled alcoholism for more than a decade, but as for drugs, “he couldn’t stand them. He did not do drugs.”
Warrant, best known for the Lane-written songs ‘Heaven’ and ‘Cherry Pie,’ was part of the 1980s metal scene in the Los Angeles area that also included Quiet Riot, Great White and LA Guns. On Aug. 29, members of those bands participated in a Lane tribute at the Key Club (formerly known as Gazzari’s) in West Hollywood. Also in attendance was Bobbie Brown, Lane’s ex-wife. They met during the filming of the video for ‘Cherry Pie.’
