Drummer Vinnie Paul on Pantera Reunion: ‘It’s Never Gonna Happen’
Despite the tragic death of shredder 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott and the hostility held between certain members of the great Pantera, there has been rumblings of a possible reunion of the band for the past few years. Pantera / Hellyeah drummer Vinnie Paul hasn't been one to pioneer any sort of reunion, and while paying tribute to late Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman along with his late brother Dimebag, the drummer addressed the Pantera situation with a simple bat-away.
In a recent interview with France's L'Enôrme TV, Vinnie Paul gave a heartfelt statement about Hanneman. "We all miss Jeff," Paul says. "Jeff was a great friend and we had some very good times with him. I just wish the Slayer boys the best. And hopefully Jeff is in a better place."
Paul was also asked about potential unreleased Pantera or Damageplan recordings of Dimebag becoming public. "I'm so busy with Hellyeah right now, and it's really my main focus," Paul states. "Whenever I find the time and I think the time is right, I'll definitely find a way to put it out and get it out for people to hear, because, definitely, my brother still has a lot of great works that people haven't heard, and I definitely want people to hear it."
Finally, addressing a potential Pantera reunion with Zakk Wylde filling in for Dime, Paul simply responded, "How does Pantera get back together without Dimebag Darrell? That's the bottom line. It's never gonna happen."
Hellyeah are currently on the road with Megadeth, Black Label Society + many others for Gigantour 2013. For a full list of tour dates, click here.
