I enjoy a good burger and the many ways there are to make one.

Recently, I finally got to try Twisted Root Burger Co. in the Broadway Square Mall. I had the Western which has pepper jack cheese, fried onion strings, jalapenos and bacon. Delicious doesn't begin to describe it.

The atmosphere was great inside, too. For those who haven't been, when you place your order, instead of a number, you're given a celebrities name. When they call out that name, you're order is ready. And there was a guy making balloon animals, too.

Plus, they had True Vine on draft. #winning

But, I was a little sad to learn yesterday that a couple of my other favorite burger joints have closed their doors.

First, across from my apartment, the Steak and Shake next to the new Valero gas station on South Broadway had closed February 8.

I usually go there about once a month and the last time I had gone was in January. Not only was it walking distance from my apartment, but the prices were great and I liked the burgers. (Doc's Cafe didn't last long in that location either. This sign was on their door.)

The Steak and Shake by UT Tyler is still open, so I'll have to make a drive to my fix now.

Then, I read this morning in the Tyler Morning Telegraph that Smash Burger has closed their Tyler locations. They had great burgers and I loved their fries. And I saw some comments on Facebook from my friends that the Longview location has closed, too.

Well, there's still plenty of good burger options in Tyler. Whataburger, Burger King, Jucy's, Grub Burger Bar (which I have yet to try), among others. Not to toot my own horn, but I make I pretty darn good burger myself. Should do that more often anyway.
