
Tribute Event For Longtime Smith County, TX Judge Quincy Beavers Jr.
Smith County Judge Quincy Beavers Jr. recently retired as Justice of the Peace after over 28 years of dedicated public service. On Saturday, June 18th, a tribute event will be held in his honor as well as to raise needed funds for his newly formed non-profit foundation to help provide scholarship for college students.
Judge Beavers Was The First Black Person to be elected as Justice of the Peace In Smith County.
Prior to becoming Justice of the Peace, he worked with the Smith County Sheriff’s Office as a Chief Warrant Officer and Deputy Sheriff, which gives him a total of 40
years with Smith County. Judge Beavers has been a viable factor to many of in the community, and many feel that its important that he receives his just due.
The Event Will Be Held At The Cascades Country Club In Tyler.
The Honorable Alexis Herman, former Secretary of Labor (1997-2001) under President Bill Clinton’s Administration and the first Black person to be appointed to that position has been confirmed as the keynote speaker. . Under her tenure, unemployment in the country reached a thirty-year low, and witnessed the safest workplace record in the history of the Department of Labor.
Also, internationally renowned gospel singer, Wintley Phipps will be the entertainer for the evening. Mr. Phipps has performed on Saturday Night Live and been the special guest on the Emmy award-winning series Super Soul Sunday on the Oprah Winfrey Network. Mr. Phipps was nominated for Grammy Awards in 1988 and 1989.
