The Wallflowers Reveal Details for 2012 Album, Tour

Veteran rockers the Wallflowers have been out of action for quite some time after going on hiatus in 2007. The band will release a new as-yet-untitled album in 2012 through Columbia Records, their first since 2005′s ‘Rebel, Sweetheart.’

According to a press release, the Wallflowers are currently putting the finishing touches on the new record at Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville, Tenn. The facility is owned by Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach. They hope to put out the record later this year. Wallflowers leader Jakob Dylan feels that there is fresh energy within the group, something that has been lacking for a significant amount of time.

“It’s been a while since we’ve felt this energized and creative,” says the son of Bob Dylan. “We haven’t changed our stripes so much as we’re continuing to redefine the animal.”

The Wallflowers will play a handful of shows in the U.S., starting on July 20 at the inaugural Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Del. Fans will be able to get a preview of what to expect from the group’s forthcoming release this fall.

Following the band’s hiatus, Jakob Dylan concentrated on his solo career. He released ‘Seeing Things’ in 2008 and 2010′s ‘Women + Country.’ That was part of the reason why the Wallflowers took such a long break.

“We all just got busy doing different things,” Dylan tells the St. Jospeh News-Press. “We’d been together since I’d started working on that group in 1989, so kind of an extended break was due, kind of recharge everybody’s batteries and refocus.”

Dylan continues: “I don’t know if it’s a good time or not. I just always liked being in that group, and I think it’s really a valuable group. When I’m not doing it, I miss it. We’ve been trying to find time for a little bit, everybody’s just gotten very busy.”
