Texas, We’ve Got A New Netflix Price Hike Coming Our Way
Access to 'Netflix' is about to cost you more the next time you go to watch your favorite show or movie.
For Netflix subscribers in Texas and around the country, the start of 2025 isn't good news. The streaming giant announced that a rate increase is coming and it'll be starting with your next billing cycle.
New Netflix Price Hike Coming Our Way:
- Ad-supported tier at $7.99 per month - up from $6.99
- Standard ad-free tier at $17.99 per month - up from $15.49
- Premium tier at $24.99 per month - up from $22.99
In a letter to the company's shareholders, they said the new pricing tiers would affect customers in the US, Canada, Portugal, and Argentina and would go into effect during the subscriber's next billing cycle.
For those 19 million who recently signed up during the Christmas holidays, the rate is effective now. Rate increases are nothing new for subscribers, according to Forbes, since debuting 2007, Netflix subscribers have seen price increases in 2011, 2015, 2017 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, and now 2025.
Why the increase in monthly rates?
The company is looking to increase viewership through live programming, such as sports and award shows, partnerships with WWE, the NFL, the FIFA Women's World Cup games in 2027 and 2031, and the SAG Awards.
It also plans to continue providing scripted content through movies and series like Squid Game, the final season of Stranger Things, and You.
While some users air their frustrations on social media, ultimately they will have to decide whether or not to continue paying for the streaming service.
