My home state of Texas is known around the world for a few iconic things: Being big, Cowboys, and most definitely BBQ.  Really it's not surprising that the Lone Star State-centric magazine Texas Monthly spends a lot of time discussing the various BBQ joints and smokehouses you'll find in every single town (and sometimes on the side of the road in a shack) in Texas.

This year, Texas Monthly's BBQ Fest hit the road.  Usually, this annual celebration of brisket, ribs, and more is centered around the Austin area - but the writers and publishers decided that would be too narrow of a view to represent such a rich and varied BBQ landscape.  That means it's time for 3 East Texas restaurants to get some of that delicious glory!

According to a report from CBS19, the delegation of BBQ experts from Texas Monthly made a "Pit Stop" to pay homage to 3 of East Texas' finest (and messiest) establishments.  On Sunday, a huge party celebrated Tyler's favorite Stanley's Famous Pit Bar-B-Q, the brand new Sunbird BBQ from Longview, and the delectable Joseph's Riverport BBQ hailing from Jefferson!

Each one of these delicious spots for BBQ have become Texas legends in their own unique way - and it didn't go unnoticed.  This honor is sure to drive new, hungry mouths to discover why Texas' most prestigious magazine literally drove hundreds of miles from home to chow-down.

Not only does this raise awareness of what is possibly the Lone Star States most precious resource, but thanks to Tito's Handmade Vodka (proudly made in Texas, by the way) the Pit Stop Tour is helping stomp out hunger.  Tito's has promised to match donations collected at the events up to $20,000 - and it all benefits Feeding Texas and their mission to feed the roughly 6 million Texans facing food insecurity right now.
