Texas is Well-Represented in Rio
Of the 500 athletes competing in Rio, a good portion of them are from Texas. They're from Houston, Dallas, Texarkana, and College Station, and they're spread out across many of the most popular events.
Track and Field athlete Maggie Malone is representin' East Texas, and she's from College Station. Jarrion Lawson also competes in Track and Field, and was born in Texarkana.
Overall, Texas has 31 athletes competing in the Rio Olympics, with the most from the Houston area. Eleven Olympians are either from Houston, The Woodlands, or the Sugarland area. The Dallas area and San Antonio sent some track and field athletes to Rio too, along with a wrestler and a gymnast, according to USA Today.
Texas also has one rugby player, some swimmers, and at least four Taekwondo athletes. Timothy Wang from Houston is the lone table tennis star. Tamika Catchings, Brittney Griner, Jimmy Butler, and DeAndre Jordan are the Texans on the USA Basketball teams.
