Iconic Texas DPS Mustang 5.0 Auction Fails to Sell
If you were a kid in the 90s, when you saw this car coming, you knew it meant business. The Texas DPS Mustang 5.0 was not a vehicle to be trifled with.
If they couldn't outrun you, they could out-handle you. If they were slick tops with no lights, they were even faster.
Now you could strike fear into the heart of many an older Texan, while enjoying a classic Mustang. A 1993 Ford Mustang LX notchback sent to Texas with the Special Service Package reportedly for use by the Texas Department of Public Safety was recently for sale on Bring-A-Trailer.

That side profile of the silver pipes from the back tires to a baloney cut at the end of the bumper is so iconic. I had a black Ford truck in the late 90s, and even though it was a V6, I had to do my exhaust pipes in the back just like this.
Of course, this car was the 302 5.0 V8, and it has a 5-speed manual. Back when this car was new, automatic transmissions were slow to shift, and manual examples were faster. In today's automotive world, its 225 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque couldn't catch a cold.
This one was repainted in the same black-and-white Texas Department of Public Safety livery with all the emblems and lettering. It is a dream car that didn't sell.
Texas Police Car Did Not Meet Reserve And Didn't Sell
The fact that this Mustang has high miles might have turned off some buyers, but if it is a true DPS vehicle, it was likely driven to almost 100,000 miles and sold at auction. I think it makes it more authentic.

The vehicle was bid up to $18,000 and did not meet the reserve. You could always find the guy who has it, ask his price, and become the envy of many at car shows in Texas.

Take a look at more of the photos inside the car.
