We have seen it on more occasions especially around the holidays when 'Porch Bandits' steal packages from doorsteps to make a clean getaway.

Now under a new Texas law that passed 'Porch Bandits' would have to think twice about stealing packages because it could come with harsh penalties.

According to ABC 13, it will be a felony if you or someone you know steal anything mail related like letters, postcards, packages, and any sealed item.

Under the House Bill 37, if you are caught stealing packages you could face between six months to 10 years in prison if convicted not to mention paying a fine ranging from $4,000 to $10,000.

Amazon is in full support of the new law and planning on backing the bill and see to it that it make it to other states.

Of course, there are going to be some individuals who like to try to break the law.

A Houston woman was caught on video stealing a package off the doorstep from the First Ward and is wanted for stealing three packages.

Authorities are working on identifying her.

The new law goes into effect on September 1, 2019.
