State Fair of Texas Announces Its Big Tex Choice Awards

Every year, the State Fair of Texas serves up some strange combinations of food placed in a deep fryer. This year is no different.

This year's finalist for the Big Tex Choice Awards according to NBC 5 in Dallas are:

Deep Fried Chicken Noodle Soup on a Stick - Soup on a stick? It's the familiar chicken noodle soup, fried into a ball with a spot for some broth on each ball.

Deep Fried Froot Loops - Just like it sounds, our favorite childhood cereal fried with whipped marshmallow and topped with a glaze and powdered sugar.

Fat Smooth - This is three Belgium mini cream puffs fried and covered in powered sugar and a chocolate and caramel sauce.

Fernie's Fried Texas Sheet Cake - It's a fudge brownie fried with cocoa puffs, panko and cinnamon then glazed with a dark icing made with Dr. Pepper. It is served with pecans, whip cream and a strawberry.

Funnel Cake bacon Queso Burger - Two funnel cakes as the "buns" with a burger patty, bacon and queso then dusted with powered sugar.

Gulf Coast Fish Bowl - This is a drink. Nerds candy on the bottom, blue alcoholic punch (not specified which alcohol is used) topped with a pineapple slice.

Pinot Noir Popcorn - Popcorn mixed with Pinot Noir wine powder and cheddar cheese.

Surfin' Turfin' Tator Boat - Lobster and steak topped with cheddar and romano cheese and stuffed into a baked potato.

Texas Fajita Fries - Fried beef fajita strips seasoned with sriracha in a bread cone served with Texas toothpicks (fried onions and jalapenos) and a side of pico and sour cream guacamole hot sauce.

The Tamale Donut - This is a Tamale that is fried and shaped into a donut topped with a jalapeno salsa.
