Smith County Jail Inmate Dies After Being Rushed To The Hospital
The Smith County Texas Sheriff's Office Released Details On The Death Of A County Jail Inmate.
On Sunday, August 11, 2024, at 8:13 pm, 57-Year Old Albert Lee Moore was found unresponsive in his cell at the Smith County Central Jail facility. A Code-Blue (Medical Emergency) was activated and on-site medical personnel immediately responded to the cellblock.
Lifesaving procedures were performed pending the arrival of UT Health EMS.
Albert Moore was transported to Christus Mother Frances ER and admitted into the hospital. At approximately 6:57 am on August 12, 2024, Albert Lee Moore was pronounced deceased by the attending physician.
Smith County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Derrick Choice arrived at the hospital for the inquest. Judge Choice ordered an autopsy, and the body was removed to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences (SWIFS) in Dallas.
This custodial death has been reported to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards in Austin and the death is being investigated by the Texas Rangers as is Smith County Sheriff’s protocol.
Albert Lee Moore has been incarcerated in the Smith County Jail since February 13, 2024, for failure to comply as registered sex offender and was frequently seen in the clinic according to the press release from the Sheriff's office.
4 Months Ago, A Female Inmate Died At The Smith County Jail
Tonya Williams, an inmate at the Smith County Jail, was in a medical emergency around 6 a.m. on April 7th, 2024. Officials said resuscitation efforts were given and Williams was taken to a local hospital where she “succumbed to her medical emergency.”
The Texas Rangers are also investigating that case but no word yet on the outcome.
