The Smith County Jail in Tyler, Texas was one extremely busy place for the last week of January 2024. Smith County law enforcement processed 180 individuals into the jail from Wednesday, January 24th to Wednesday, January 31st.
People were arrested for numerous misdemeanors and felonies. Of those 180 arrested in Smith County more than one-third are now facing at least one felony charge. Those felony charges range the spectrum and include:
- capital murder of multiple persons
- arson
- driving under the influence three times or more
