A Huge Merger Between Two Of The Nation's Biggest Theme Park Companies Has Been Completed.

We told you a few months ago about a potential blockbuster merger that was in the works between Texas based Six Flags and Cedar Fair that would combine both companies under the Six Flags banner.

But the Department of Justice put the merger on hold due to "anti-trust" concerns and requests for more information. After completing the DOJ's request, the deal is officially back done.

Six Flags and Cedar Fair announced their plans to merge in November, a deal that both companies said could be worth $8 billion along with the companies' debt.

Cedar Fair would own 51.2% of shares while Six Flags would hold on to the rest.

Six Flags operates 27 amusement parks including Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio and Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington.

Cedar Fair operates 17 amusement parks and 11 resorts including both Schlitterbahn parks in New Braunfels and Galveston.


The parks will combine into one company named Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.

With the merger completed, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation will control 42 theme parks, water parks, and resort properties across the U.S., as well as Canada and Mexico.

Six Flags will also shutdown headquarters in Texas will shut down and move to Charlotte, North Carolina while maintaining the Six Flags name.

The company went on to add that all parks will keep its "legacy branding" with no changes to park names currently being planned or contemplated.

These rides once stood proud and brought joy and terror, in some cases, to those who rode them at Six Flags Over Texas. These rides no longer exist at Six Flags Over Texas. Yes, The New Texas Giant is there, but The Texas Giant went through a complete remodel and redesign and received an upgraded steel track and has a new configuration, and is no longer like the OG, The Texas Giant.
