Silverchair Break Up – ‘Indefinite Hibernation’

Silverchair announced they are calling it quits, at least for now. They are calling this an "indefinite hibernation.' The band posted a statement early this morning on their facebook page. Check out details on the split and videos from Silverchair after the jump.

Silverchair, which includes singer/guitarist Daniel Johns, bassist Chris Joannou,and drummer Ben Gillies, have been together since they were 12 years old. The last album that they released was back in 2007. They tried going back in the studio in 2009, but the spark was simply not there anymore.

"Today we stand by the same rules now as we did back then ... if the band stops being fun and if it's no longer fulfilling creatively, then we need to stop."

This was a part of their statement on facebook. I grew up listening to Silverchair, so to hear this news was almost heart breaking. I wish the guys the best of luck going their separate, individual ways. I believe one day they will find their spark again and give us something beyond amazing. Until then, RIP Silverchair.
