The government shutdown is now well over a month and Senate leaders are coming together to hold two proposals tomorrow (January 24th) that could reopen the government.

According to ABC News, the votes will be held one day before 800,000 federal workers will miss a second paycheck.

One of the votes will be from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell from President Trump’s proposal from last weekend to give three years of protection from deportation to DACA immigrants brought to the U.S. as children in return for the $5.7 billion he wants for a border wall.

The second vote will be on a bill approved by the Democratic-controlled House that will reopen the government through February 8th, during that time negotiations can be held on border security.

The only problem is both are expected to fall short of the 60 votes needed to avoid a filibuster.

For the sake of the American people I hope both sides can come together and put this to an end to get the government running again.
