Several school districts around the country are already selling school bus advertising as a way to supplement income.  With all the budget shortfalls we are having in the state, why are we not doing this in East Texas?  Cbsdfw.com reports that ads are on nearly 200 school buses with plans to have them on 500 in the next few months.  More after the jump.

Initial projections estimate the ads will bring in a million dollars this year.

Why in the world are we eliminating teaching positions, cutting funding for fine arts programs, etc.?  School bus advertising seems like a good idea to help with the budget shortfalls to me.  Besides, we're not talking about making the school buses look like Nascars.  The school districts that are already using them have strict guidelines.  We are also not talking about sacrificing safety.  The ads are not distracting, and in no way do they cover any of the lights, or other safety features on the bus.  The ads are pretty small too, in other words, there is still plenty of the bright yellow left on the bus to catch drivers attention.

I even found a website for a company that does school bus ads.  Check it out.

So what do you think?  Is school bus advertising a good idea?
