Recycle Your Christmas Tree – Turn It Into A Fish Habitat

The presents are gone from underneath your Christmas tree and now that dead space is being filled with fallen needles from your tree. Now is the time to think about what to do with that once beautiful Christmas tree.

Beginning December 26th, you can recycle that ole Charlie Brown tree so that it can be used as a fish habitat in one of our area lakes. Tyler residents can drop off their undecorated, non-flocked, natural Christmas trees in designated areas at Golden Road Park and Fun Forest Park now through Sunday, January 19th, thanks to the City of Tyler Solid Waste Department and Keep Tyler Beautiful.

Golden Road Park is located at the intersection of McDonald Road and Golden Road. Fun Forest Park is located at 2000 N. Forest Ave.

All decorations, such as lights and ornaments must be removed from the tree, before dropping it off near the sign that says “Christmas Tree Recycling.”

Area fisherman are invited to pick up the natural trees, and sink them into local lakes to create fish habitats. These habitats improve fishing in local lakes by creating areas where fish gather to hide and eat.

Natural, flocked and artificial trees can be placed curbside for normal pickup and will also disposed of at the landfill. Other holiday items that can be recycled are cardboard boxes and packaging, electronics, glass bottles, wrapping paper (non-foil) and gift bags, paper products and string lights. Please drop these items at the Downtown Recycle Center, 414 N. Bois D’Arc Ave. in Tyler.
