One of the latest hot names among quarterbacks in the NFL -- and a product of Tyler -- will be showcasing his athletic skills to the city’s youth, when the second-annual Matt Flynn Tyler Red Raider Football Camp returns to Robert E. Lee High School on Saturday, June 30.

The Matt Flynn Tyler Red Raider Football Camp is open to youth entering grades 3 through 8 during the upcoming academic year. Youth grades 3-4 will participate from 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. and campers entering grades 5-8 will participate from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., with lunch provided by the camp.

Flynn is a 2003 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. Flynn led LSU to the BCS national championship in 2007 and played four seasons with the Green Bay Packers, including their Super Bowl championship two years ago. Flynn’s best performance in Green Bay was his last, throwing for 480 yards and six touchdowns in a victory over Detroit in last season’s finale.

The camp is organized by the Tyler Red Raiders Youth Football Association. Andy Bergfeld, the organization’s president, is a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and earned an athletic scholarship at SMU, where he graduated from in 1993. He was also Flynn’s 7-on-7 coach in high school and is proud to have Flynn back in town.

“Matt’s story is one of hard work and determination -- much the same as we are trying to teach our youth football players,” Bergfeld said. “Matt has stayed humble and never got caught up in flashy allure of big-time football. He is exactly the kind of role model we need for our young men in this community.”

Instructors at the Matt Flynn Tyler Red Raider Football Camp will be Robert E. Lee High School head football coach and athletic coordinator Darrell Piske and several members of his coaching staff.

Parents of youth interested in participating in the Matt Flynn-Tyler Red Raider Football Camp can get more information by finding the event on Facebook, or by contacting TITUS Sports Marketing at info@titussportsmarketing.com. Among its portfolio, TITUS has been the sales and marketing representative of the Tyler ISD since 2003.

Cost of the camp is $40 for ½ day campers (grades 3-4) and $85 for full-day campers (grades 5-8). All registrations for campers will be made on-site starting at 8:00 a.m.
