One of the big lessons that the Senior Class of 2020 is having to learn is adaptation. Because of adaption, they are being presented with more options when it comes to graduating this year.

The coronavirus has taken away so many memorable moments from high school seniors this year. Seniors have missed out on their prom, final performances on theater stages, final choir, orchestra and band concerts, ceremonies, competitions and for some, they've missed out on their last year of playing sports at the high school level. This class has had to adapt and change to a new way of completing their high school education through distance learning.

Many believed that an official graduation day and even wouldn't be possible thanks to coronavirus or that graduation would take place later this summer. That has all changed. Longview ISD is offering graduating seniors two options when it comes to receiving their diplomas this year. They may:

  • attend an individual ceremony
  • attend formal graduation ceremonies

LISD posted on their Facebook page giving senior the option because of the on going health crisis in East Texas.

For students opting for the individual ceremony, students may reserve a time from May 12th - 15th for their individual graduation experience at LOBO Stadium.

For students opting for the formal graduation ceremony, will participate in a traditional group setting on Friday, May 29th at LOBO Field (with social distancing measures in place).

Walking across the stage is a pretty big deal, I remember doing it as both a senior in high school and college. Thankfully the Senior Class of 2020 will get to experience the same thing I did, although it will be a different.

Congratulations to the Class of 2020. Adaptation is a great lesson to learn, one that will be used throughout your college and real world lives.
