Update: The $20,000 goal has been met and Travis Moore has started the process of working on the Lemmy Kilmister statue. A time-lapsed video of Moore creating a tiny clay model that will mirror the six-foot-tall statue can be seen at the bottom of this post. TMZ reports that the hope is to unveil the statue in May.

A life-size statue of late Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister is set to be erected in front of the Rainbow Bar & Grill in Hollywood, Calif. The statue will be cast in bronze and cost a reported $20,000 to create.

Not long after Lemmy Kilmister passed away, a petition and crowdfunding campaign was launched to help make Lemmy’s statue a reality. The Rainbow has agreed to house the statue in honor of the bar’s favorite customer, with artist Travis Moore confirmed to create the six-foot piece. Moore will not charge any fee for his labor while the crowdfunding page will hopefully cover the cost of the materials and process. As of this posting, almost $16,000 has been pledged by fans.

Travis Moore was selected by the Maglieri family, who own the Rainbow, to build the statue. After completing a proposal and sketches, he began to work on an 18-inch maquette, which will act as the basis for Moore’s final work.

“I have known the Maglieris for over 10 years,” says Moore. “Mikeal is like an uncle to me and has been one of my biggest supporters, a great patron and friend and we have a mutual love and respect for each other. I have had the pleasure of meeting all of his family including his parents and kids…and now their kids… I also have tremendous respect for Mario and Scarlet — they are amazing people… Mikeal and I have attempted to work together on some big projects and have been trying to get a collaboration off the ground surrounding my art and his businesses…the Rainbow and The Whisky……”
