Texas loves the Super Bowl & we certainly love the Halftime performances. We know the state has hosted the Super Bowl before, but we know that some our most famous singers & musicians have performed during the Halftime Show. So in honor of Usher performing Halftime show for the 2024 Super Bowl, let's look back at some older performances done by Texas musicians.

Super Bowl VIII

Yes the first time we've seen Texas musicians perform at a Halftime show wasn't a pop super star; it was in fact during Super Bowl VIII in 1974 at Rice Stadium in Houston, Texas. The University of Texas Longhorn Band along with Miss Texas 1973, Judy Mallett on fiddle, were the first Texans to ever play a Halftime show. This would also be the first time Texas hosted a Super Bowl.

Super Bowl XXVIII (Clint Black & Tanya Tucker)

The first time we saw Texas superstars play a Halftime wasn't a rock group, or a pop star. In fact it was during the 1994 Super Bowl XXVIII in Atlanta, Georgia. Clint Black from Katy, Texas & Tanya Tucker from Seminole, Texas were amongst the performers for the "Rockin' Country Sunday" Halftime show.

Super Bowl XXXI  (ZZ Top)

Oh yeah, you HAD to have ZZ Top perform at the Super Bowl. And they did at Super Bowl XXXI in 1997 at the Superdome in New Orleans. While the main act was the Blues Brothers, ZZ Top appeared as a special guest performing "Tush", "Legs" and "Gimme All Your Lovin'" along with everybody.

Super Bowl XXXVIII (Nelly)

The next one on our list takes us back to Houston, Texas, the home of Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004. Nelly from Austin, Texas was amongst the stars performing the Halftime like Jessica Simpson, P. Diddy, Kid Rock & we can't forget Janet Jackson & Justin Timberlake... yes... it was THAT Halftime performance.

Super Bowl XLV (Usher)

Yes 2024 won't be Usher's first Halftime show; the Dallas singer performed during the 2011 Super Bowl XLV at AT&T Stadium alongside the Black Eyed Peas & Slash. Also there were dancers & the dance team from the Prairie View A&M University Marching Storm.

Super Bowl XLVII (Beyoncé)

We return to New Orleans at the Mercedes Benz Superdome for Super Bowl XLVII in 2013. There were only 2 main performers during this Halftime show; the one & only Queen Bee from Houston...Beyoncé. And she brought some old friends...Kelly Rowland & Michelle Williams. Yeah we saw the return of Destiny's Child in what, in my opinion, was one of the best Halftime performances to date.

Super Bowl LIII (Travis Scott)

Our last stop is...well the Superdome again for Super Bowl LIII in 2018. Say what you want about the Halftime show, but the lineup WAS packed with stars like Maroon 5, Big Boi & Travis Scott from Houston, Texas.

I personally would love to see more rock bands represent Texas in future. But so far we continuously see musicians & superstars represent Texas in the Super Bowl. And with that... I'm happy about that.
