During Nirvana's career, Texas was blessed to see the band during their prime. Kurt Cobain, without a doubt, is one of the most important rock figures in history; before his tragic death in 1994, Nirvana became one the main bands that helped make grunge music become so popular in the late 80s & early 90s.

Kurt brought an energy to the stage & to the fans & during a show in Dallas, Texas in 1991, that energy would become a little too much as he would nearly get beat up by a bouncer at the show.

The date was October 19, 1991 at Trees Dallas

Also called the Deep Ellum club, the club opened up in May 1990 offering concerts for those in Dallas/Fort Worth area & still do. A year and a half later, the club would have their most talked about show in history; when Nirvana would perform on October 19, 1991, just a few weeks after releasing their iconic Nevermind album.

The show, in a polite way of saying, wasn't exactly the best sounding. Kurt wasn't exactly feeling the happiest with the crowd jumping on stage while the band was performing due to the lax security.

This was pretty clear during songs like "School", where Kurt literally kicks a fan off the stage.

Or during "Polly" where Kurt gets frustrated with the sound monitors acting up.

However the part of the show where people REALLY remember happened during "Love Buzz"; where Kurt stage dives into the crowd and gets brought back onto stage a little too rough by a security guard. What happened next became a part of Dallas & Nirvana history.

Yeah punching Kurt Cobain in the back of the head... that will definitely go down in history as one of the craziest moments at any rock concert. Everything WOULD calm down & the band would resume their set list and finish the show. Amazingly the whole concert is available to watch on YouTube.

It's safe to say that that show will never be forgotten by the members of Nirvana. In Dave Grohl's book "The Storyteller" described the tension at the show as "like a short fuse on a handmade bomb". There's also a clip on YouTube that contains interviews from the show promoter, Jeffery Lies, and the ACTUAL security guard, Turner Van Blarcum as they recall what happened that night. However the video is age-restricted so if you want to watch it, you can find it here.

I know the show has lived on in infamy but I'm thankful no one got seriously hurt; kudos to the rest of the band for going back & giving their diehard fans the show they deserved that night. And thank god Nirvana never had another experience like that again in Texas.
