Texas Might Get a High Speed Rail But Only in a Few Cities
For a while Texas was sitting & wondering whether or not we would actually see a high speed rail line. Well it turns out that, yes. We ARE on the plans for a proposed high speed rail network in the United States. A select few cities will be lucky enough to see this plan however; only a handful of cities are included on this plan.
Which Texas cities will be seeing a high speed rail line?
According to the US HSR, they posted a map that shows the proposed lines. Among the cities from Texas are names we kind of expect to see: Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio & Austin.
One notable name that's missing is the 6th largest city in Texas: El Paso. And some people online expressed their disappointment on Reddit.

But other people will notice that many other major cities are missing too; like Galveston, Corpus Christi, Amarillo, Waco...places that are popular for tourists.
So why are these places missing? Well it's possible that they chose these few cities because, well let's be fair, they ARE the most popular cities in the state. Perhaps they want to see how they fair in these cities before expanding. Another reason is that it's very expensive. Making an expansive high speed rail network in the entire country is NOT cheap (heck even in the major cities, it can be problematic)
We already have an expansive rail line already that cuts through the state so cities like El Paso, Corpus Christi, Abilene, etc, will have to wait for this to happen and see the success of it to determine whether or not WE will be next. I'd love for a high speed rail line to exist in the ENTIRE state but...we will have to wait to see what happens in the future.
