Texas Officer ‘Bare Hands’ Alligator in Front of Home – See It
In Louisiana and parts of Texas, there is more than enough habitat for alligators to thrive. And while Louisiana law enforcement officials might have a few more "incidents" involving alligators and humans than Texas officers do, we'd be wrong to say a Texas cop can't handle himself with a 'gator.
Such was the case a few days ago in Fulshear Texas. As you might have guessed Fulshear is in the great Houston, Texas metropolitan area. The city is about 60 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico and is about 30 miles west of downtown Houston. And evidently, alligators find the living in Fulshear to be to their liking.
The incident from August 23rd of this year features body cam footage from Fulshear PD Lieutenant Bill Henry. Bill is talking with a homeowner who has discovered something a little more dangerous than a porch pirate at his front door.
Here's how it unfolded via a post on the Fulshear PD Facebook page.
In the course of the video, you can hear Lt. Henry discussing his plans with the homeowner. The Lieutenant said he had a pole in his car but because of the 'gator's small size, he opted for the barehand grab.
That prompted a "you're a hero comment" from one of the interested onlookers who were watching from a safe distance. Henry's coworkers at the Fulshear Police Department posted the comment " You can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy" following the alligator removal.
By the way, should you encounter an alligator in an urban setting it's probably best that you not attempt to remove the creature. In Louisiana, you may contact Louisiana's Department of Wildlife, or in Texas you may contact Texas Parks & Wildlife. They will arrange for qualified assistance at your location.
We should note that neither the officer nor the alligator were injured.
