(Longview, Texas) I'm knocking on wood...knock knock. It's been quite a while since I've had to make an appearance at the municipal court to take care of some legal business, like a speeding ticket. Thankfully, my lead foot isn't as heavy as it once was.

But when I've had to make an appearance, it's often at an inconvenient time, and the court is on the other side of the city or county. Many others in the Longview area have felt this way, too. The struggle is real to make it to court and to arrive in front of the judge on time.

Why Longview Needs a Mobile Court

While scheduling a convenient time is a big deal, people often miss court dates because of a lack of transportation. With these two major factors in mind, the Longview Municipal Court is taking a unique approach to court with a new program called "Mobile Court".

How the Mobile Court Works

The goal of the Mobile Court in Longview is to allow residents to address outstanding cases in a convenient, local setting rather than having to drive downtown. This way, legal resolutions can happen conveniently for Longview residents. There are plans for the Mobile Court to make other stops in neighborhoods throughout Longview.

First Mobile Court Event Details

The first Mobile Court will be held on Wednesday, February 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Broughton Recreation Center at 801 S Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.

If you have a Class C misdemeanor or fine misdemeanor that violated the Transportation Code, Penal Code, Education Code, Alcoholic Beverage Code, or the Health and Safety Code and Longview Code of Ordinances violations, your case could be heard by the Mobile Court. Decisions made during the Mobile Court will be the same as if you appeared in Municipal Court in person.

Future Mobile Court Dates and Locations

There are plans for the Mobile Court program to be out and in the community every other month - April, June, August, October, and December. Those dates and locations will be confirmed through the City of Longview Mobile Court website.
