Here we are again showing off not only the biggest things in Texas but also that things are bigger and better in Texas.

A lot of people outside the Lone Star State do not realize how big the state is. Texas is estimated at 268,597 square miles. A figure like that is impossible to wrap your head around. It won't help much, but let's look at in relation to another country. At 50,301 square miles, England would fit into Texas FIVE times.

With a state this big, there are lots of long, lonely stretches of highway. Let me tell you from firsthand experience that this is very much true, things can get remote in Texas rather quickly. Still, those remote roads do not add up to the monster highway in Texas that accounts for the "Biggest Stretch Of Road".

The winning road is Interstate 10. Yes, it might feel a little more "Texas" to name some seldom-used road next to abandoned gas stations with tumbleweeds blowing by, but that's a vision of Texas that has to do more with fantasy than reality.

I-10 travels east to west through the Lone Star State across its widest point coming in at 878.7 miles. Of course, I-10 also stretches across America from California to Florida, but fully 1/3 of its length happens in Texas.

As a bit of a follow-up, for those of you who wonder about our much romanticized and sung about Route 66/I-40, it only spans a little over 177 miles, making I-10 well over four times its length.

So if you want to see Texas from your car window, your best bet is jumping on 1-10 and traveling across all of the scenic vistas the Lone Star State has to offer.
