Anybody who knows me knows that I'm really big on "the more you know". If you're like me you like being informed and making educated decisions. That's why when I come across something useful that could save you time, money, and hassle, I love to share it. I mean, after all, it helps everyone involved.

It goes down like this. If you go out to your vehicle and there's money under your windshield wiper, do not approach it to investigate. Your car may have been targeted. After all, who really leaves money for the taking on a windshield? You should be on alert to contact the police if needed.

The crooks are hoping you get out to investigate or take the money, which is usually counterfeit anyway. Once you're out of the way, they swoop in and take off in your vehicle.

Additionally, it doesn't always have to be money on the front windshield. It can be as simple as a sticky note on your rear window. Whatever it takes to get a clear passage to an open vehicle. The video below explains the scheme as well as the types of vehicles targeted and which states were hotspots at that time.

There are some things you can do to better protect yourself, such as these tips and tasks from Allstate.

  • Lock your doors when getting out
  • Remove your keys
  • Close windows
  • If at night, park in well-lit areas

The point is to keep you and your vehicle safe. Our vehicles are an absolute lifeline for most of us.
