10 Times Howard Stern Feuded With Famous Musicians
Howard Stern's talk-focused show has never hidden his love of music. The infamous shock-jock regularly plays host to world-renowned acts, many of whom perform after sitting down for in-depth interviews.
Over a lengthy run on terrestrial radio, TV and satellite channels, that's included everyone from AC/DC to Christopher Cross to Stone Temple Pilots. Stern has also carried on lengthy conversations with the likes of Paul McCartney and Billy Joel that rank with some of the most incisive of their careers.
But it's sometimes been a bumpy ride. For instance, he famously tussled with Bon Jovi – both on the the air and out in the real world. Stern actually recorded a parody song called "You Give Friendship a Bad Name," and led the crowd in a "Bon Jovi sucks" chant during a 1989 concert by the Who at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
That's not the only high-profile act to have publicly clashed with the self-proclaimed King of All Media over the years. For instance, he butted heads with consecutive Van Halen lead singers, though Stern later patched things up with one of them. He made Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan a part of an embarrassing inside joke. He ran Pete Townshend off the set.
In fact, many of these fences have been mended – though clearly not all of them. And Stern remains prolific. As you'll see, he's also taken aim at superstars in the pop and country arenas, including Michael Jackson and Dolly Parton. Here's a look back on 10 times Howard Stern feuded with famous musicians ...
