Get Active In Longview Parks With These Springtime Activities
With spring's arrival just days away, we're going to have so many opportunities to get outside and enjoy some fun activities with our family, friends and some people that could become our friends or teammates. Cities throughout East Texas provide plenty of park space for us all to enjoy.
From just taking a walk to throwing a Frisbee to a buddy or taking a swing on the swings to playing tennis, basketball and soccer, there are so many things to do at any of our wonderful parks.
The Longview Parks and Recreation Department has unleashed a ton of recreational things for us all to participate in thanks to warmer weather. Among the recreational activities available this spring: kite festival, softball, kickball, whiffle ball classic and there is a need for lifeguards too.
When and where is the kite festival in Longview?
The kite festival is happening during spring break at Lear Park on Wednesday, March 16th from 11a - 4p. Bring your kite and lawn chair for some fun. There will also be arts and crafts activities too along with some food vendors helping to satisfy those healthy appetites. Make sure to pack the sunscreen and sunglasses and hope that it's going to be a sunny, breezy afternoon.
How do you sign up for softball in Longview?
Adult softball leagues are now forming. If you're competitive and looking for an athletic outlet then create your team and get them signed up. There are different divisions for different skill levels. Register your team of 10 - 20 players at the Parks and Recreation office at 130 Timpson St.
How do you become part of kickball in Longview?
This will take you back to elementary school when you're standing at home plate with the chain-link backstop fence behind you anticipating the arrival of that big red ball and your kick! There is some competitiveness to kickball in Longview, but it's mainly more relaxed and focuses on recreational play. Get complete registration details here.

This inaugural event will take place Friday, March 18th at Miracle League Field at Lear Park. The tournament will be happening on Saturday, March 19th with a special glow-in-the-dark homerun derby. To sign up for the home run derby or get your wiffle ball team involved, sign up here.
Become a lifeguard for a Longview city pool.
Before you know it summer will be here and the city pool will be open. The City of Longview is seeking a few outstanding people to serve as lifeguards to watch over the pool when it's filled with kids and adults catching a break from the heat and splashing around. The aquatics page has all the details on how you can become a lifeguard and wear that red shirt with a white cross.
