First Vacations After Quarantine Will Be Road Trips
When things open up again and we start to travel, road trips will be huge. And there are five Texas towns we need to visit.
Jefferson is a great spot for a ghost tour as we know, and it's not just at Halloween. That's one East Texas town that made Wide Open Country's list that will inspire your first post-quarantine Texas road trip.
The Ultimate Small Town Texas Road Trip should include ghosts, history, and kolaches, according to Wide Open Country. And some festive beverages too if you feel like driving to Shiner.
Athens - The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is there if you're in the mood for some angling, and car lovers dig the annual Warriors Auto Show. Athens is also the spot for the East Texas Arboretum to get some pics and perk up your social media pages.
Marshall - Sometimes it's called the cultural capital of Texas. It's rich with history from the Civil War era and the Texas Revolution, and the food culture is happening too. It's Don Juan's, Porky's Smokehouse Grill, Cajun Tex, and other good restaurants that make Marshall cool.
Jefferson - The Jefferson General Store might be the most unique thing about the town, and it's got more than 70 historical landmarks. The general store is just what you might imagine with soda fountains and old bar stools, and a creaky wood floor that's been around for a century or so. Jefferson makes a mark with ghost tours too, and it's the most haunted spot we've got in East Texas.
Shiner - That's home to the Spoetzl Brewing Company, which makes Shiner beer. They've got tours, and performances in the Gaslight Theater so you can take a load off while enjoying your post-quarantine celebration.
West - Kolaches! The Czech bakery off I-35 in West provides the fuel we need to keep sittin' in the car on this road trip. They've got sweet kolaches and savory kolaches, and they look so simple it makes you wonder what the big deal is. Then you bite into one with sweet fruit, bread, and a sugary drizzle, and suddenly you're twelve years old and back at your grandma's house acquiring a taste for the finer things in life. These kolaches are an emotional trip and we don't know how they do it.
After the coronavirus situation passes, it's safe to say that staycations won't be happening for a while, and road trips will be part of the first phase of recovery. Home is great, but we're reaching the tipping point and pajama days are getting old.
So start planning that road trip now, and as soon as it's safe, let's hit it.
