The Discount Retailer Left East Texas Last Year And Now They Closing Down All Of Their Locations.
In a surprising move, discount retail chain "Dirt Cheap" has announced it will be closing all of its locations.
Channel Control Merchants, the parent company of Dirt Cheap and Treasure Hunt, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Thursday. They plan to close all of its stores to clear up debt.
The Mississippi-based company, known for offering steep discounts on a wide range of merchandise including clothing, home goods, and furniture has more than 60 locations across Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Texas, Georgia and Tennessee.
Dirt Cheap has been a go-to destination for customers seeking heavily discounted, overstock, and closeout items from major retailers.
The company's decision continues a broader trend in the retail industry, where the rise of online shopping and changing consumer habits have impacted brick-and-mortar stores, particularly those in the discount sector.
While the exact reasons for the closures have not been fully detailed, industry analysts speculate that rising operational costs and competition from other discount giants like "Dollar General", along with the increasing popularity of e-commerce platforms like "Amazon", may have played a role.
