Twisted Root Burger Co. is known for its creative and tasty toppings, thick milkshakes and extensive craft beer selection. You can go again and again and again and have a different culinary experience each time.

There's something else that makes Twisted Root's menu even more varied: You can get any of their burgers with Wagyu beef, buffalo meat or a daily selection of exotic meat. Managers at each location set their own schedule for which of these exotic meats to serve when, but here's what you can expect when you try something a little unusual:

1) Venison is raised without growth hormones and has a sweet, rich flavor. It's typically considered less juicy than beef with a firmer, smoother texture. It's "often imbued with hints of the acorns, sage and herbs," according to SteaksandGame.com.

2) Wapiti elk live free range without receiving growth stimulants or hormones. The meat is a dark red and has more iron and protein than other meat, according to BonWapiti.com.

3) Lamb has a sweet, mild taste. A tender meat, the lamb Twisted Root uses is raised domestically and mostly grain-fed.

4) Ostrich doesn't really taste like other birds, according to NorthForkBison.com. With dark red, lean meat, some compare it to a prime beef or veal. It's both rich in iron and low in fat.

5) Rabbit has been eaten for centuries as a clean and healthy meat; some say it tastes like chicken. They are raised without growth hormones or animal bi-products.

6) Duck tends to have a tender, fatty (in a good way!) texture and tastes more like roast than chicken or turkey, according to CookNovel.com.

7) Camel is sweeter than beef and has high moisture without much fat. It's popular in some cultures, including pastoral Somalis who eat it at weddings and other celebrations, but remains a novelty meat for Americans, according to FoodTank.com. Some say it tastes like a "high-quality venison" or grass-fed beef, according to the article.

8) Boar is sweet and nutty with intense flavors. The meat is naturally lean and high in protein, but chefs say it doesn't really taste like domesticated pork (and the meat itself is a bit darker,) according to NorthForkBison.com.
