With winter weather coming down in full force, that leaves an unfortunate number of East Texas homeless out in the cold with nowhere to turn.

East Texas offers several options for the homeless or needy who need a warm place to stay with meals and other services provided.

Tyler

  • The Salvation Army, 633 N. Broadway Ave: The front door to The Salvation Army Center of Hope has no lock on it, which means the shelter is open 24/7 all year. The Salvation Army in Tyler is the only residential shelter in the area to house both men, women, and children. During extreme weather conditions, the emergency shelter is available to those who need it.

Longview

  • Hiway 80 Rescue Mission, 3117 W. Marshall Ave.: Hiway 80 Rescue Mission has been in operation in Longview for more than 60 years and reaches out to the area homeless to provide shelter, meals, spiritual guidance and more.
  • The Salvation Army, 519 E. Cotton St.: Just like Tyler, The Salvation Army in Tyler is always open and is welcoming to those who need shelter.
  • House of Hope, 3011 W. Marshall Ave.: House of Hope is for women and children, and offers an outlet to get out of the weather and have a warm place to stay with meals provided.
