When you think about dryer sheets, you’re probably thinking about moving clothes from the washer to the dryer. Or some variation of doing laundry but over the past few years there have been a growing number of people even here in Tyler, Texas that have started to leave a dryer sheet in their mailbox. Doing so can not only be beneficial to you but also to the person who is delivering your mail.

If for some reason you see a random dryer sheet in your mailbox and you didn’t put it there, you should leave it there and not throw it away. The trend got started a few years ago when a USPS employee was delivering mail on his route and kept finding yellow jackets in mailboxes. What most of us don’t know is that dryer sheets are created with a scent that yellow jackets hate and often they try to avoid that scent or that area.

Is There Any Proof About This Dryer Sheet Idea? 

While there hasn’t been any specific scientific research done on this claim about dryer sheets, if it has worked to help postal workers in the past it just makes sense to continue as it seems to be keeping them a bit safer while completing their job.
