On Thursday actor Bradley Cooper found out he was nominated for Hollywood's biggest honor, an Oscar. And the night before that he was in Texas, hanging out at an average, ordinary theater, to promote the film for which he's nominated.

American Sniper has been out since December in limited release, but the official release date is today, so it will be shown in many more theaters. It's the story of Chris Kyle, an ex-Navy Seal who is said to be the deadliest sniper in American history. He and a friend were shot to death at a gun range in 2013, and an ex-Marine is awaiting trial on related charges.

Chris Kyle's widow, Taya, was at the Wednesday premiere in at a Cinemark Theater in Plano, along with Bradley Cooper and hundreds of fans, most of whom were snapping pics on cell phones and uploading them instantly to social media.

American Sniper opens nationwide today. Not only is Bradley Cooper up for Best Actor for his role, but the movie is also in the running for Best Picture.

Carmike Cinemas in Tyler and Longview, Times Square Cinema, and Hollywood Theaters are showing the movie, along with several other spots in East Texas.
