Scammers Are Gonna Scam: Beware Of The Latest Scam That's Being Found In Smith County Mailboxes.

We told you a few days ago about one scam that's going around Smith County involving phones and now the scammers are attacking folks through the MAIL as the Smith County Sheriff's Office is warning residents to be on the look out for a letter that's been circulating.

Take a CLOSE look at the letter above. According to the Smith County Sheriff's Office, this letter has been sent to some residents by either email or regular mail. The letter claims that it has something to do with an "ongoing investigation into identification theft" and threatens to "suspend your old SSN".

Look EVEN CLOSER And You Can See The Tell-Tale Signs Of A Scam.

Tips to watch out for with scam letters include multiple misspellings and inaccurate information that doesn't make sense. For example, this one purports to be from a former County Judge who hasn't worked for the county in YEARS. Also, County government has nothing to do with issuing social security numbers. Not to mention words like "Respected" and "LOOSE" the account as opposed to "LOSE".

What To Do If You Receive One Of These Letters?

Very simple: Throw it away and carry on with your day. BUT if you're unsure, call the Smith County Sheriff’s Office at (903) 566-6600 and they will be more than happy to check it out for you but pay attention and don't panic if you receive one of these letters, just reach out to the County directly.
