Bad Company’s Simon Kirke Gives Advice to Young Musicians: ‘Life Is Not a Rehearsal’
As Bad Company head toward the homestretch in their One Hell of a Night co-headlining tour with Joe Walsh, drummer Simon Kirke took some time to answer a few questions for promoters Live Nation. In the video above, you can see him doling out some sound advice for young musicians.
Kirke was short and to the point in saying what aspiring rockers need to do. "Be on time, be in tune, don't screw up," he said. "Life is not a rehearsal."
While acknowledging that he's jet-lagged, Kirke also said that he was "looking forward to playing with Paul Rodgers again to hundreds of thousands of people, 'cause I still love playing in Bad Company." And even though he's a drummer, he admitted that his favorite instrument in his collection is a Martin D-76 guitar.
Bad Company and Walsh have been on the road since kicking off the tour on May 12 at the Gexa Energy Pavilion in Dallas, and they still have nine more dates before the final night at the Carl Black Chevy Woods Amphitheatre at Fontanel in Nashville on July 3. They made headlines last month when they performed a surprise cover of the Beatles' "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" in Tampa.
In October, Bad Company will play two weeks of shows in their native U.K. on a run they're calling the Swan Song tour. Guitarist Mick Ralphs, who is sitting out on U.S. dates due to an unwillingness to travel, has said that he is returning to the band for those concerts. Richie Sambora and Orianthi, performing as RSO, will serve as the opening act.
