Texans love Fall. After enduring a blistering hot and humid summer, they look forward to cooling off with cooler temperatures that give them more time for outdoor activities and football! Another thing that many Texans look forward to during the Fall is tons of fall color.

Now fall in Texas is quite a bit different than other parts of the country. By the time the oranges, yellows, and reds of fall colors arrive in Texas they have come and gone for the majority of the country.

While we may not have the stunning beauty of millions of trees turning at the same time like they do in the Pacific Northwest, Rocky Mountains, or Northeast our trees will and do produce some stunning sights for us.

It also means it's harvest time. One of the biggest crops harvested this time of year is the Texas pumpkin. South and West Texas farmers produce an abundance of pumpkins, squash, and gourds that are used in fall decorating and for creating jack-o-lanterns for Halloween.

A MUST SEE event in Dallas is 'Autumn At The Arboretum'

For 19 years now the Dallas Arboretum has created stunningly beautiful displays that have been the backdrop for many holiday family photos. This limited-time exhibit uses pumpkins, gourds, and squash to draw in millions of visitors each fall.

Preparation begins in late August as more than 100,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash are used to create a full-sized pumpkin village.

Texas Town is the theme at the Dallas Arboretum

Visitors are stunned at what artists create for them to look at out of corn stalks, hay, pumpkins, gourds, and squash. Visitors to the arboretum will see:

  • houses created out of pumpkins
  • garden shacks created out of gourds
  • horses created out of corn stalks
  • art displays made from all the mediums

It truly is a masterpiece and work of art that will leave all visitors to the Dallas Arboretum breathless.

You'll want to get tickets early

Tickets to this exhibit are in high demand, you'll have to purchase tickets early as walk-up tickets are usually not available. Make sure your phone has plenty of battery and that the camera lens is cleaned off because you will be taking quite a few pictures.
