An East Texas Basketball Team is Headed to Ireland
The Stephen F. Austin basketball team is headed to Ireland! Wanna go? If you do, there's one big reason why you won't want to refer to the team as the "Jacks" while you're there. You could end up in the toilet.
The SFA Lumberjacks have a big adventure coming up this fall, and you can go along, and cheer them on at the ultimate road game in Ireland. And then you can hang out and have a beverage or two and since you'll be in Ireland. This could get wild. Road games in Louisiana are fun and all, but this is Ireland.
Oh, and when it's time to ask where the bathroom is, you can ask a native to help you find "the jacks." Yep, it's true. "Jacks" in Ireland is another term for "bathrooms." In America the toilet is a "John," and in Ireland, it's a "Jack." Our SFA Jacks probably never knew they were so essential to our everyday functions.
Why do guys with J names have a good chance of sharing their titles with the toilets? We don't know. But we would submit that maybe this basketball adventure overseas would be a good opportunity to refer to the Lumberjacks by their full name for a change. It seems like the chances of confusing the Lumberjacks with a toilet would be pretty slim that way.
Our SFA Jacks are going to play in 2018 Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic on November 29, 30 and December 1, 2018. The tournament will be broadcast live here in America, and they'll announce those details soon, along with ticket information so you can get that flight booked to Belfast.
And while we're on the subject of language differences, also in Ireland, french fries are called chips, and chips are called crisps. It's a good thing we have plenty of time to learn this lingo.
So...Ax 'em Jacks! And we ain't talkin' about the toilets.
