It’s understandable if you think you know a lot about Corey Taylor. After all, the media often trumpets his outspoken comments, including those about other artists. Yet, the frontman of Slipknot and Stone Sour is much more complex than the headlines would portray.

Ex-Black Flag and Rollins Band frontman Henry Rollins has recruited Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo, Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro and members of Rob Zombie‘s band, including guitarist John 5, for a benefit concert Nov. 30 at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood, Calif.

The masked marauders of Slipknot have elaborated on plans for their next album, but they reiterate that they’re in no hurry to enter the studio.

Slipknot fans received a bit of good news over the summer when percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan announced that the band was planning an American tour for 2012. Now, Crahan says Slipknot is in the planning stages for the follow-up to 2008′s ‘All Hope Is Gone’ album, although it might be awhile before anyone gets to hear it.

Faithful maggots who have been pining away for new Slipknot since the release of ‘All Hope Is Gone’ way back in 2008 are going to have to keep waiting for awhile, because the band has no plans to record. But fans in the US can take heart knowing that there’s an American tour on the horizon for next year, according to drummer Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan.

Singer Corey Taylor is best known for his role in two big-selling bands (Slipknot and Stone Sour), and the same can be said of bassist Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver). There’s a pretty good chance the next high-profile group for each of them will be a joint project, according to Taylor.

They have an all-star lineup and a pair of top five albums to their credit, so what’s keeping Velvet Revolver from soldiering on without departed vocalist Scott Weiland? According to drummer Matt Sorum, the band has tried — even going so far as to record an entire album’s worth of new material with Slipknot/Stone Sour singer Corey Taylor. But it hasn’t panned out — so far, anyway.

Slipknot made and emotional return Friday night at the Sonisphere Festival. This is the first time they have been live on stage since the death of bassist Paul Gray, who died of an accidental overdose last year. Stone Sour just had to cancel their remaining tour dates because drummer Ray Mayorga suffered a stroke.  It may actually come at a good time for lead singer Corey Taylor.  It will give him time to prepare his speech that he has been asked to give at Oxford University!  More after the jump.
