As previously reported, The Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney trashed Nickelback in a recent interview with RollingStone.com. Carney told the magazine that “rock and roll is dying because people became OK with Nickelback being the biggest band in the world." Now if you were in Nickelback's shoes, how would you respond to this? I don't think I would have been as light-hearted as they seemed to be about it.
When it was announced that Nickelback would perform during halftime of the Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions NFL game on Thanksgiving Day in Detroit, a group of ‘Back haters started an online petition seeking a different act for entertainment. It’s just the latest in a steady stream of disses directed at the band — yet despite all the Nickelback bashing that goes on, the band members’ feelings don’t seem hurt in the slightest.
So after much fanfare leading up to Nickelback’s performance during the halftime show during yesterday’s Thanksgiving Day Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers match-up, including their own self-deprecating take at it on Funny or Die, the band took to the field in fine form.
Leave it to Funny or Die to remedy a touchy situation with a little comedy! By now we all know that a few people in Detroit are not happy about Nickelback’s upcoming performance during the United Way Thanksgiving Halftime Show during the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers game on Thanksgiving Day. The online petition hasn’t deterred the band too much, but why not have a little fun with it.
