The City of Tyler will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Different subsidies will handle the holiday in a variety ways.

It's Memorial Day, a day when the United States as a nation reflects on the military personnel who've lost their lives fighting for their country. What began a Decoration Day after the Civil War to commemorate the soldiers who lost their lives in battle has since been expanded and renamed to address all Americans who have died during military service.

There will be plenty to do this Memorial Day weekend in the East Texas area. There will too many pool parties and BBQs to count. Why not do something a little bit different this Memorial Day? Try one of these Memorial Day events.

Driving through Chandler yesterday, I saw an awesome display honoring those military service men and women who have given their life to protect our freedoms that we enjoy today.  The simple field of flags was an amazing site.  Watching them fly in the wind as I sat at the signal light at Hwy. 31 and FM 315 was though provoking.

The service men and women of our country make huge sacrifices to fight battles on our behalf and keep the freedoms we hold dear. One of those sacrifices is being away from their families and loved ones for long periods of time. The only thing that makes this sacrifice bearable for most is the incredible sweetness of coming home, even if it is only for a short leave.

Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner, and Texas law enforcement encourages taking a minute to make sure you are up-to-date on all boating laws to ensure your safety.

Musicians have always been big supporters of our U.S. military. Rock and country artists are especially patriotic when it comes to their support of our fighting men and women.
