Weekend Box Office: ‘Fast Five’ Cruises to Record-Breaking Opening

'Fast Five' kicked into high gear at the weekend box office.

The action-packed sequel, the fifth in the 'Fast and the Furious' franchise, took in a whopping $83.6 million, setting a record for the best April opening ever. (April's previous owner was fittingly 2009's 'Fast and Furious, with $71 million.)

New Movie Releases: ‘Fast Five,’ ‘Prom’ [VIDEOS]

Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend. One is the fifth installment (yes, fifth) of the popular summer blockbuster series 'The Fast and the Furious', this time called 'Fast Five'. The other big release this weekend is a movie called 'Prom', which as you might have guessed focuses on the events surrounding and leading up to a high school prom. It's hard to say which film will do better at the box office, as these films are targeted to two completely different audiences. Which one would you rather see?

Take a look at their trailers, Mr. Moviefone's Six Second Reviews and a list of movies still in theaters after the jump.
