Slash Covers Elton John’s ‘Rocket Man’ for Daredevil Eddie Braun’s Snake River Canyon Jump
Slash is lending his support to daredevil Eddie Braun, who is set to attempt a rocket jump of the Snake River Canyon as a salute to iconic daredevil Evil Knievel. The Guns N' Roses guitarist has covered Elton John's classic song "Rocket Man" with his band, Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, and the cover is one of the incentives that those who contribute to Braun's Kickstarter campaign will receive for donations.
Braun is attempting to make the jump which nearly killed Knievel 42 years ago, but when a network backer recently got cold feet about broadcasting the jump, the daredevil decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign to continue with his plans. He's seeking to raise $150,000 and was approaching $38,000 in donations at press time, with 23 days still left to go. As stated, there are a number of incentives for those who donate, including the download of Slash's "Rocket Man" version.
Braun says via his Kickstarter site, "I approached the rock icon Slash, who I knew to be an Evel Knievel fan, and asked if he would be interested in being involved with my rocket project. He gave us the most awesome gift we could ever dream ... a theme song! Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators got permission from Sir Elton John to re-record his 1972 hit song 'Rocket Man' specifically for our project. Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators suggested we include the song with every reward so every single backer of our Kickstarter campaign gets it. So that's what we're doing! I'm so honored to have been given the most epic theme song, by the most epic guitarist of all time!"
The daredevil will be inside his Evel Spirit rocket, which was made from the spare and original parts of Knievel's original rocket, when he launches across the canyon on Sept. 17. The vessel is expected to reach a blistering 0-400mph in just three seconds while utilizing 10,000 horsepower. After 4.5 seconds, the rocket is expected to spin out of control, at which point, Eddie will pull his chute and land 1/2 mile away on the other side of the Snake River Canyon if all goes according to plan.
Those who donate to the Kickstarter campaign will be allowed to watch the jump live as it occurs, and if successful, it will set a new Guinness World Record. If you wish to donate, you may do so at Eddie Braun's Kickstarter page.
