Roy Oswalt is Returning to Texas — Arlington Not Houston

Facebook

Roy Oswalt, a long-time Astro and short-time Phillie is returning to Texas baseball. It’s being reported that The Texas Rangers have inked a deal with the All-Star pitcher for up to $8 million pro-rated with $4 million in his pocket, and he has the potential to earn an extra $1 million in incentives if he makes 10 starts.

This is good news for Rangers fans, seeing how Neftali Feliz is sidelined with a sprained ligament in his right elbow, possibly till the All-Star Break. Oswalt’s signing will also add much needed depth and a veteran presence to the talented, but young Rangers staff.

According to ESPN.com: Oswalt, 34, has a career record of 159-93 in 11 seasons with Houston and Philadelphia. He is a three-time All-Star who has finished among the top five in National League Cy Young Award balloting five times in his career.

It is being reported that he’ll likely join the Texas rotation around June 20. Oswalt, who hasn’t thrown a Major League pitch this season, will be getting the call-up after he makes a few Minor League starts to stretch his arm out.

The Rangers own the best record in the American League at 31-18, but the Oswalt signing provides much needed insurance, and if they weren’t before, solidifies them as front runners for a return to the World Series, for an unprecedented third straight year.
