With just a handful of dates left in their 2014 fall tour, Pearl Jam stopped by Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena last night (Oct. 16) and performed a massive 32-song set full of fan-favorites like ‘Corduroy,’ ‘Dissident,’ ‘Comatose’ and more. One of the most powerful songs, though, came in the middle of their opening set in the form of 2000's 'Light Years.'

After rocking ‘Even Flow,’ frontman Eddie Vedder took some time to talk about Detroit’s pride and joy, the one and only Jack White. “He’s just a great player, just a great writer, a visionary,” he told the crowd, which, as you can imagine, was received with massive applause.

The conversation took a serious turn as Vedder said, “We send our hearts out to his band. He lost one of his bandmates the other day, another great human, Ikey Owens.” He then proceeded to explain how meaningful the next song is, and dedicated it not just to Owens, but to all of Pearl Jam's fans. “We’ll try to do a bit of healing. We’ll take the energy and put it out there,” he said as he started strumming the opening notes of ‘Light Years.’ Check it out in the video below:

Owens, White’s touring keyboardist and longtime member of the Mars Volta, was found dead Tuesday (Oct. 14) in a hotel room in Mexico, due to a heart attack. Out of respect for Owen's family, White canceled the band's remaining dates in Mexico.
