Listen as Ozzy Osbourne Is Brilliantly Mashed Up With Earth, Wind and Fire

Imagine Ozzy Osbourne going off the rails on a disco train, and you have DJ Cummerbund’s new mashup with Earth, Wind and Fire. Listen as he deftly combines “Crazy Train” from Osbourne’s 1980 debut solo album Blizzard of Ozz with the R&B classic “September.”

As you can imagine, earlier connections between Osbourne and Earth, Wind and Fire are few and very far between. Osbourne appeared with Black Sabbath at California Jam in April 1974 on a bill that also included Earth, Wind and Fire. Even then, unfortunately, their paths never actually crossed.

“What I remember is that it was a big deal for us,” Earth, Wind and Fire bassist Verdine White told Songfacts in 2014. I think we were the only group of color that was on that day, if I remember. … It was great. And in those days, as soon as you got off, you couldn’t stay after the show. You had to leave the whole place because it was a big rock ‘n’ roll show. I think we played for a quarter of a million people.”

Incredibly, Osbourne has dabbled in disco before. He covered the Bee Gees favorite “Stayin’ Alive” during sessions for Dweezil Zappa’s 1991 album Confessions, though his vocals were later replaced. The original take eventually appeared on Osbourne’s 2005 box set Prince of Darkness.

This isn’t DJ Cummerbund’s first out-there combination of music genres either, but it may just be his best.
