Since Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994 and Nirvana‘s inevitable breakup, Dave Grohl has stayed in the limelight and has flourished as the leader and front-man of Foo Fighters.

Krist Novoselic, meanwhile, has put music on the back burner for the better part of the last 17 years. But Novoselic has picked a good time to strap on his bass again for the public: a Sept. 20 celebration and fundraiser in Seattle to mark the upcoming 2oth anniversary of Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ album.

Taking place at the Experience Music Project venue Sky Church, the show is scheduled to include other musicians with strong ties to the Seattle music scene, including members of the Fastbacks and Screaming Trees.

Proceeds will benefit cancer-stricken Susie Tennant, who had worked at Sub Pop and Geffen during Nirvana’s tenures with those record companies. The Geffen offshoot label DGC released ‘Nevermind’ on Sept. 24, 1991; deluxe editions of the album are due Sept. 27 via Universal Music Enterprises.

The Sept. 20 show is not the only Nirvana-related happening at EMP. The exhibit ‘Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses,’ which features a destroyed Cobain guitar, a Grohl drum kit and an acoustic Novoselic bass, is on display through April 22, 2013.
